At Hygge we believe great furniture is made to be lived in and loved for years to come.

Whether you're gathering around the dining table with family, relaxing on your favourite sofa, or styling your living space with timeless décor, proper care helps preserve the beauty and longevity of your furniture.

The following guidelines provide general recommendations for maintaining the materials used throughout our collections.

Disclaimer

The care recommendations provided on this page are intended as general guidelines only. Cleaning methods, environmental conditions, and individual products may vary, and results cannot be guaranteed.

The Hygge team is not responsible for damage caused by improper cleaning methods, unsuitable cleaning products, or failure to follow recommended care practices.

Before using any cleaning product, always test it on a small, hidden area first.

Natural materials such as wood, marble, travertine, leather, and fabric may display variations in colour, grain, texture, veining, or pattern. These characteristics are part of the material's natural beauty and are not considered manufacturing defects.

General Care

To help maintain the appearance and performance of your furniture

  • Keep furniture away from prolonged direct sunlight to minimize fading and drying.
  • Avoid placing furniture near fireplaces, radiators, heating vents, or air conditioning units.
  • Use coasters, placemats, trivets, and protective pads to prevent heat, moisture, and scratches.
  • Place felt pads beneath decorative accessories to protect finished surfaces.
  • Clean spills immediately with a soft, dry cloth. For stubborn spots, use a slightly damp cloth with mild soap and dry thoroughly.
  • Avoid harsh chemicals, bleach, ammonia, abrasive cleaners, or solvents.
  • Always test cleaning products on an inconspicuous area before use.
  • Avoid placing heavily dyed fabrics, such as dark denim, directly against light-coloured upholstery to reduce the risk of colour transfer.
Wood Furniture Care

Natural wood adds warmth and character to every home. Because wood is a living material, it naturally expands and contracts with seasonal changes in temperature and humidity.

Care Tips

  • Dust regularly using a soft microfiber or lint-free cloth.
  • Clean with warm water and a mild soap solution when needed, then dry immediately.
  • Apply a quality wood polish or beeswax occasionally to nourish and protect the finish.
  • Use coasters, placemats, and trivets beneath hot or wet items.
  • Keep wood furniture away from direct sunlight, excessive moisture, and heating or cooling sources.
Natural Movement

Small gaps, slight movement, or seasonal expansion and contraction are natural characteristics of solid wood furniture and should not be considered defects. If movement becomes noticeable, maintaining a stable indoor environment and relocating furniture away from heat sources can help minimize changes.

Marble Care

Marble is a timeless natural stone valued for its elegant veining and unique appearance. Every marble surface is naturally different, making each piece one of a kind.

Natural Characteristics

Variations in colour, veining, texture, and pattern are inherent features of natural marble. Your furniture may differ slightly from showroom samples or website images, and these differences are considered part of the stone's beauty rather than imperfections.

Preventive Care
  • Wipe spills immediately, especially coffee, wine, fruit juice, citrus, oils, and other acidic liquids.
  • Clean regularly using a soft cloth dampened with clean water.
  • Use only pH-neutral cleaners specifically formulated for natural stone.
  • Never use vinegar, lemon juice, bleach, ammonia, or abrasive cleaners.
  • Use coasters, placemats, and trivets to protect the surface.
  • Avoid placing sharp or heavy objects directly on the marble to reduce the risk of scratches or chips.
Sealing

Marble is naturally porous. Depending on usage, resealing approximately once a year can help maintain protection against moisture and staining. For the best results, consult your local stone care professional regarding suitable sealers.

Travertine Care

Travertine is a natural stone appreciated for its distinctive texture and organic beauty. Each piece features unique variations that enhance its character.

Care Tips

  • Dust regularly using a microfiber cloth.
  • Clean with warm water and a mild soap solution.
  • Dry surfaces immediately after cleaning.
  • Avoid acidic or abrasive cleaning products.
  • Always use coasters, placemats, and heat-resistant mats.
  • Reapply a stone-safe wax or sealer every 6–12 months, depending on use.
  • Always test sealers on an inconspicuous area before full application.
Leather Care

Leather naturally develops character over time and benefits from regular conditioning.

Care Tips

  • Dust regularly with a soft, dry cloth.
  • Vacuum creases gently using a soft brush attachment.
  • Keep leather away from prolonged sunlight and direct heat.
  • Blot spills immediately—never rub.
  • Clean using a damp cloth and mild soap when necessary.
  • Condition leather once or twice each year to help maintain its softness and prevent drying or cracking.

For stubborn stains, consult a professional leather cleaning specialist.

Fabric Upholstery Care

Routine maintenance helps keep upholstered furniture looking fresh and comfortable for years.

Care Tips

  • Vacuum regularly using an upholstery attachment.
  • Rotate, flip, and fluff removable cushions regularly for even wear.
  • Keep furniture away from prolonged direct sunlight.
  • Avoid machine washing or dry cleaning removable covers unless specified by the manufacturer.
  • Trim loose threads carefully rather than pulling them.
  • Fabric pilling may occur through normal use and can be removed using a fabric shaver.
Spill & Stain Care
  • Blot spills immediately using a clean, white cloth.
  • Work from the outside of the stain toward the centre.
  • Avoid rubbing, as it may spread the stain.
  • If necessary, use a fabric-safe upholstery cleaner after testing on a hidden area.
  • Avoid oversaturating the fabric.
  • Allow the area to dry completely before use.

For larger or persistent stains, we recommend professional upholstery cleaning.

Rug Care

Proper maintenance helps preserve the appearance and lifespan of your area rugs.

Care Tips

  • Vacuum gently once or twice each month without using a rotating beater brush.
  • Rotate rugs periodically to promote even wear and minimize fading.
  • Blot spills immediately using a clean cloth.
  • Avoid excessive moisture during spot cleaning.
  • Professional rug cleaning every few years is recommended, depending on usage.
